The IIR at 34th OEWG in Paris

This week the IIR attended the 34th Meeting of the Open-Ended Working Group of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol.

The IIR attended the 34th Meeting of the Open-Ended Working Group of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol in Paris from 14 to 18 July 2014.

On the 16th of July, a side-event took place which provided an introduction to internationalstandards and how they can be useful in supporting the adoption of alternatives to ozone depleting substances and related technologies in the context of the HCFC phase-out in developing countries, especially from the point of view of their safe-handling and preventing hazards.

IIR Director, Didier Coulomb, presented a brief overview of international and regional standards and their relevance to the Refrigeration and Air-conditioning (RAC) sector.

Also, the new guidebook “International standards in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning” was launched. This guide is intended to provide an introduction to standards and how they can be useful in supporting the adoption of alternatives in the context of the HCFC phase-out in developing countries.

Principally designed as an information tool for National Ozone Units (NOUs), it also holds interest for refrigeration associations, various government departments, including those working on standardization issues, and other stakeholders in the refigeration and air conditioning sectors.
