Refrigeration continued to drive sales of large household appliances in France in 2021

According to Gifam, a grouping of home appliance brands, sales of refrigerators, freezers and wine coolers increased in France in 2021.

Like every year, Gifam, the French grouping of home appliance brands, presented in February his report on the French household appliance sector for the previous year. After a record year in 2020, growth continued in 2021 with +7.6% in value and 9.9 billion euros in revenue.

Refrigeration accounted for 24% of the household appliance market in value in 2021, with sales growth of 8.7% after an already very positive 2020 (+5.0%). Sales of wine coolers (+5.1%) and freezers (+0.8%) stabilised in 2021 after exceptional results in 2020. Sales of refrigerators grew the most in 2021 (+10.6%).  When comparing the results of 2021 with those of 2019, which was the last year not affected by COVID-19, the changes were +19.4% for freezers and +13.9% for wine coolers.

Due to a cooler-than-usual summer, sales for home thermal comfort appliances fell by 14.7% in value. However, sales of dehumidifiers increased by 38.5%, reflecting consumers' concerns about health and well-being.
