What is an IIR Working Group?

IIR Working Groups (WGs) operate on a temporary basis and bring together specialists to work on projects concerning current technological, social or economic issues linked to refrigeration. Their aim is to promote development, provide knowledge and give recommendations in these spheres.

In order to achieve these objectives, they organise workshops, write publications and guidelines, and provide support to professionals, researchers and decision-makers.

Over the past few months, the IIR has inaugurated several new WGs:

Demand-oriented non-uniform indoor environment

Chaired by Xianting Li – Commission E1 on Air conditioning

The objectives:

  1. share research progress on demand-oriented non-uniform indoor environments;
  2. demonstrate the efficiency of demand-oriented non-uniform indoor environments in real projects;
  3. disseminate the knowledge of demand-oriented non-uniform indoor environments.

Dehumidification in air conditioning

Chaired by Baolong Wang and Xu Zhang – Commission E1 on Air conditioning

The objectives:

  1. share research progress on dehumidification in air conditioning – including chemical dehumidification, refrigeration dehumidification, desiccant dehumidification, etc. – and summarise the current state of research;
  2. clarify the technical road map for dehumidification in central air conditioning systems for industrial applications and human comfort applications;
  3. clarify the technical road map for humidity control in residential buildings.

Refrigeration Safety

Chaired by Alexander Cohr Pachai – Commission B2 on Refrigerating equipment, with B1 on Thermodynamics and transfer processes, E1 on Air conditioning, and E2 on Heat pumps and energy recovery

The objectives:

  1. create, examine and analyse an international database of accidents, starting with new accidents;
  2. develop practical processes and procedures to put in place for the safe handling of refrigerants;
  3. publish guidelines for the safe handling of and working with refrigerants based on the collected data.

Whole-body cryotherapy (WBC) or cryostimulation

Chaired by Benoit Dugué – Commission C1 on Cryobiology, cryomedicine and health products, with A1 on Cryophysics and cryoengineering, and B2 on Thermodynamics and transfer processes

The objectives:

  1. standardise exposure protocols according to the individual characteristics and desired effects of treatments;
  2. standardise methods to measure the exposure temperatures inside all existing WBC devices;
  3. develop safety instructions to follow after exposure;
  4. promote WBC methods in all possible fields of application.
