Germany: fluorinated greenhouse gas use takes another dive in 2013

Use of HFCs, HCFCs and SF6 decreased by 7% in Germany in 2013, according to latest figures from the German government.

The use of fluorinated greenhouse gas in enterprises and local units in Germany continued to decline in 2013, as it had done in 2012. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that 9,145 tonnes of fluorocarbons were used: 700 tonnes or 7% less than in 2012.
While the greatest demand was for use as refrigerants, it was this area that showed the largest fall, dropping by 9% from 7,562 tonnes in 2012 to 6,897 in 2013.

The climate impact of fluorocarbons used in 2013 amounted to a total of approximately 17 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent, with R134a accounting for just under 8.9 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent. R404A use corresponded to another 3.9 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent.
