Summary

Install the oil separator in order to improve efficiency and safety in the refrigerator. Since oil separator causes an additional pressure drop. Therefore, while ensuring the separation efficiency, it is necessary to minimize the pressure drop. For this purpose, with respect to the cyclone type oil separator by using a CFD, determined the position of the pitch of the helical structure and the outlet port. And inlet was designed to be positioned eccentrically to the edge. Based on the design, result to prepare a new oil separator. In order to increase the separation efficiency was the oleophilic treatment on the inner surface. Performance of the new design oil separator has been examined by experimental setup using a refrigerator. Working fluid is R-22 and lubricant oil is mineral oil. The new design oil separator improved its pressure drop by 43.4% compared to oil separator with inlet in the center. Then improved its oil separation efficiency by 17.6% and its pressure drop by 45.9% compared to a conventional cyclone-type oil separator is henry s-5182.
