Summary

This paper describes the concept of converting the existing air-conditioning system for a copper mine into local trigeneration system supplied with natural gas. The trigeneration system provides the required cooling power and additionally heating power as well as electric power utilized locally or transferred to the network. The technical solution is presented to meet sufficient cooling and heating power. Moreover, the security level of the mine is increased by the production of sufficient electric power to be independent of external electric power system failure. An additional analysis was performed to obtain even more security level by using liquid natural gas (LNG) as the fuel. In this case, it is possible to take advantage of using its cooling power during the regasification process. The thermodynamic efficiency analysis of the proposed system referred to existing system has been carried out.
