Summary

A new ISO 17584 (Refrigerant properties) standard equation of state is presented for 2,3,3,3-tetrafluoroprop- 1-ene (R1234yf). Applying the state-of-the-art fitting techniques, this equation was fitted to selected reliable experimental data, including the critical parameters, densities, vapor pressures, and sound speeds in the vapor and liquid phases. The equation is valid for temperatures from the triple point temperature (122.8 K) to 410 K and pressures up to 100 MPa, where typical deviations in calculated properties compared to experimental values are within their experimental uncertainties. The equation shows very reasonable extrapolation behavior at extremely low and high temperatures, and at high pressures. Additionally, the terms in the equation are less intercorrelated, and the functional form can be fitted to other refrigerants with slight adjustments of the coefficients and exponents. An example for trans-1,2-difluoroethene [R1132(E)] is demonstrated. The resulting equation for R1132(E) is applicable at temperatures from the triple point temperature (184.9 K) to 400 K and pressures up to 6.5 MPa, where all experimental data used in the fitting are represented within their uncertainties. The equation exhibits adequate extrapolation as with the original R1234yf equation.
