Résumé

This paper focuses on the feasibility study of achieving zero-carbon emission for a new domestic building in the UK by enhancing the building performance and employing renewable technologies. Local climate is firstly analysed to recommend the entire passive design and renewable energy potentialities. Various passive strategies are adapted to the zero-carbon building such as double skin façade, self-shading design, daylighting control, high envelope insulation and precisely thermal mass assistance. Whereas cutting-edge technologies like photovoltaics and domestic wind turbines are employed in order to capture the local renewable energies, and the energy profiles of both consumption and generation are simulated by EnergyPlus. The results illustrate that the building consumes 18144kWh electricity annually while an onsite renewable electricity generation is 21911kWh which indicates achieving zero-carbon target is feasible for the building with corresponding carbon emission saving of 9838kgCO2/year.
