Résumé

Phase change materials (PCMs) utilized as latent heat storage media for solid-liquid transformation must be encapsulated to avoid undesirable interaction with surrounding materials or environment. Material of container must meet requirements on heat transfer, strength, flexibility, structural stability, easy handling, availability, fire protection, tightness, corrosion resistance and chemical compatibility with encapsulated PCMs. Paper deals with the methodology of the evaluation of compatibility of plastic-PCM and metal-PCM combinations for proposed installation in building structures to improve thermal inertia of the building structures. Evaluation of corrosion potential of PCMs on the metals is based on the calculation of corrosion rate (CR) and compatibility of plastics with PCMs is evaluated by the calculation of change in mass of tested plastics. For both methods, the samples of selected metals and plastics were immersed in specific organic and inorganic based PCMs and periodically heated and cooled to simulate real condition in building structures. After the removal the mass change or CR of specimens was calculated and evaluated. Contribution brings results from compatibility tests for two metals (copper and brass) and two plastics (polypropylene and high density polyethylene).
