Energy efficiency comparison of two different North American refrigerated truck-bodies insulation technologies by experimental assessment of K-value.

Résumé

This paper presents the results of the first experimental assessments of K-value of two different insulation technologies at different age in North America. Those tests allowed comparing thermal performances and assessing the relative energy consumption of sprayed foam insulated truck bodies and sandwich panel’s insulated ones. This study shows that even if it remains difficult to measure the K value of a refrigerated transport insulated truck body, it is first possible to compare the different technologies performances with evaluated K values determined in factory conditions. Second, this evaluation shows an important difference of insulation performances between the two technologies and the difference is much more important for in service equipment than for new ones. Finally, based on those results, the evaluation of the energy consumption underline the interest of a stronger insulation to preserve the environment and save energy.
